As Andre writes in his introduction to his collection:

"This is a small collection of photographs of Sparks spanning some 40 years of their visits to the UK. I first caught up with the enigmatic duo at  the Top Rank Suite in Birmingham in June 1974  where they played to an adoring crowd after the release of their third album “Kimono My House” and their first hit single “This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both Of Us”. The front of the stage was swamped by adoring teenagers making picture-taking almost impossible.

A year later, still riding high,  Sparks  performed “Looks Looks Looks” from their fifth album “Indiscreet” on London Weekend Television’s “Supersonic” show and afterwards allowed a few photos to be taken with their band outside the studios by the River Thames."

In 1981, I was invited to the launch of the album “Whomp That Sucker”.  The brothers’ record company had set up a boxing ring at London’s Hilton hotel and the brothers went head to head in a very entertaining press stunt.

Fast forward some three and a half decades and I had the opportunity to shoot the Mael brothers again. Franz Ferdinand and Sparks had started  collaborating in 2004 but didn’t record an album together until late 2014. That album “FFS” was recorded at RAK Studios in London and was released in April 2015. I was lucky enough to photograph them all on one soundstage at Maidstone Studios in May of that year when they appeared on the BBC’s “Later… with Jools Holland”. The brothers started performing together in the late 60s and are still going strong after more than 50 years. I’m delighted to have captured some special moments with them along the way."
