Eddie and Gary from China Crisis will be signing 25 copies (1 in every batch of 10 pre-orders) and these will be sent out randomly, so you have a 1 in 10 chance of getting one. Please "Like" and "Follow" Hanging Around Books on Meta and Instagram and - most importantly - when you do so, tag us, as this will help us when we pick who the lucky recipients of the signed copies will be.
Pre-orders will be sent out as soon as we have them from our printer and you will receive an email when your order is on the way to you.
Collected within the pages of our last zine release of 2026 is the work of Jim Gough, Justin Thomas and Ronnie Gurr, who captured images of China Crisis between late 1980 and 1983. These photos document a young band at home in Merseyside, on the cusp of signing to Virgin Records before entering the UK charts and they capture a vivid atmosphere. Look closely and, when not larking about, you’ll see the steely determination in their expressions when getting down to the business of making their elegant, sophisticated "possible pop songs".
Through the lenses of multiple observers, we invite you to step back into a time of difficult shapes, youthful optimism, and the quiet birth of one of Merseyside's most brilliant musical exports.
